Quick answer

Calculate the energy to restore between outages and the actual grid window. Dividing watt-hours by charging watts gives only an ideal lower estimate. Allow for losses, charge taper and any devices operating at the same time.

Success with one boiler does not establish compatibility with other systems. The exact boiler model is not given.

An odour report does not establish safe operation. Its cause and the unit’s condition were not independently checked.

Fictional household scenario · not a customer account

When this becomes a household question

Imagine an evening in a flat. A laptop is still needed for work and the fridge is on backup when mains power returns. The family begins charging the station while continuing to use appliances. Input watts appear on the display, but that does not mean all of them are replenishing the battery.

Work out what needs replacing

Start with charge before and after the outage and the tasks completed. You may need to replace a certain amount of energy rather than fill the battery completely. The useful question becomes: how many watt-hours must return during the available window? Without that plan, a large capacity may feel reassuring only before the first outage.

Maximum charging watts are not an average

Dividing required watt-hours by charging watts gives an ideal lower-bound time. Real charging depends on state of charge, temperature, settings, losses and the supported mode. Power may change near the end of charging. If appliances run at the same time, check the documented energy flow for that mode. One division is not a promise of a full battery at an exact time.

A worked example with explicit assumptions

This is an illustrative scenario, not a measurement of your appliances: 2,048 Wh capacity, 10% reserve, assumed 85% efficiency and 10 W idle draw. A 120 W average load gives approximately 12.19 hours. For a 6-hour target, the calculated nominal capacity is about 1,007.84 Wh. Startup demand and output limits require a separate check; this calculation does not establish compatibility.

The second night tells you more than the first

Look at several interruptions in a row. If charge is lower after every recharge window, the energy budget is not balancing. Reduce optional tasks and review the mode rather than improvising leads or overloading a socket. A useful choice must cover the required hours and regularly replenish them.

Fictional conversation · not a customer interview

Talking through the choice

This fictional conversation explains practical questions. The speakers are invented; it is not an interview or a customer account.

We sometimes have only an hour of mains power. Should we buy a bigger battery?
First calculate the energy used between those windows. More capacity helps at the start, but that energy must still be replaced.
Can we rely on a fast-charging label?
It is a reason to read the conditions, not a complete answer. Check the mode, starting charge, active loads and the exact station’s charging requirements.

Before you decide

  • Record the energy deficit after each outage.
  • Allow for charging losses and concurrent loads.
  • Check socket capacity and the station mode.

Common questions

Is Wh / W an exact recharge time?

No. It omits losses and changes in charging power.

Can I always charge at the maximum rate?

Only when permitted by the manual, temperature, source and household circuit.
